08/05/2017 – Ottawa, Ontario – Ms. Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North, rose in the House of Commons to reaffirm her full confidence in the Minister of Defence, the Honourable Harjit Sajjan – Member of Parliament for Vancouver South. MP Sahota boldly spoke against the Conservative Opposition Day Motion that put into question the ability of the Minister of National Defence to carry out his responsibilities.
On a recent official visit in India, the Minister made a mistake in describing his role in Operation Medusa. He retracted that description. He took responsibility for his actions and apologized for them.
“The Opposition is attempting to downgrade and diminish the image and the reputation of a respected Minister and decorated war veteran,” stated MP Ruby Sahota “Minister Sajjan has apologized in the House of Commons and we must move forward from this. Chris Vernon, then Chief of Staff of Operation Medusa, called the minister a critical member of the planning and design team. Similarly, Retired Major-General Lewis MacKenzie said that he considered the Minister to be one of the architects of Operation Medusa. These are people who were in the room. These are people who know what they are talking about.”
Our Government is proud of the service of the Minister of National Defence, as a police officer, a decorated member of the Canadian Armed Forces, and as our Minister of National Defence. MP Sahota is proud of the hard work that the Minister and the government are doing every day to support the men and women of the Canadian Forces have a positive impact in the world, whether it’s in the fight against Daesh or in undertaking the first defence policy review in over 20 years.
